The CSS links various concerns and focuses of the activities of the »school is open« Bildungsraumprojekt. With the CSS, we attempt to drawn on the living conditions of the participating students from Cologne as well as of the players in Israel. Through the sophisticated access, multiple perspectives become visible and approachable.
In view of discourses dealing with the development of an inclusive school, aspects like democratic values in education take on an important role (cf. Reich, Asselhoven, Kargl 2015). IDEC 2017 brings researchers and players in the fields of democratic education together and offers workshops, lectures and sitting in on classes. Through the attendance, all participants of the CSS have the possibility to gain insight into the inclusive educational practice of the diverse, multicultural and democratic state Israel.
In Israel as a melting pot, three world religions, various cultures and migration stories, as well as different international and mobility perspectives encounter each other. All participants of the CSS are able to acquire new experiences in this field for their further professionalization. The experience is represented in areas like dealing with heterogeneity, intercultural competences, participation and social interaction, which are all features of successful inclusion.

Moreover, the stabilization of the German-Israeli friendship is an issue during the CSS. In this context, addressing anti-Semitism looms large. Democratic development is closely related with combatting all forms of anti-Semitism, especially anti-Semitism disguised as anti-Zionism. This is one reason for our support of the only democracy in the Middle East. In addition, dealing with commemorative culture facilitates deconstructing anti-Semitic patterns of thoughts and behavior like in our learning workshop “commemorative culture regarding the National Socialism and the Shoa in the context of an immigrant society”. The CSS claims to extend this examination by a concrete, experience-based competence. Therefore, we spend our time before and after the IDEC i.a. in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. In Yad Vashem we will attend the memorial and an educational seminar.

Beyond that, the CSS should constitute an initial point for continuous, long term networking with facilities and players of teacher training (especially students) in Israel. For this purpose, we will visit facilities like the Levinsky College, the oldest and largest teacher training facility in Israel.

The allocation of places has already been completed. For all those interested, we will publish a documentation and post processing on our website.
